THE AUTHOR

Since the second grade, I have dreamed of becoming an author. Writing started as a form of expression to help me cope with the loss of my mom. But over time, it grew to be more. I realized that I had a gift for crafting words into characters and stories. In December 2016, my childhood dream was fulfilled when I published my first book— Modern Psalms of this Woman’s Walk, a poetry collection of my journey of loss, pain, hope and faith as I discovered a love for Christ.

Modern Psalms of this Woman’s Walk is a collection of poetry and prose through the journey of one woman’s darkest pains, kept secrets and brightest days told from a child’s mind to a woman’s voice. Read more.

This journey was both eye-opening and inspiring. To know the woman walking personally, you would think I would have a firm grasp of some of the challenges that were faced to get to where she is now. The mere fact that she was able to be vulnerable and share her deepest losses, gives the reader permission to reflect and share theirs. This is a beautiful collection of strength and authenticity at its finest. I'm looking forward to the next chapter in this journey.

THE ADVOCATE

"Every person matters and every person deserves equality, respect and a fair opportunity. I believe in advocating on behalf of those who cannot advocate for themselves and empowering others to have a voice and using it."

THE POET

“I write to make sense of what doesn’t make sense. I write to give a voice to those who don’t have words for how they feel.”

In the fourth grade, poetry became one of Danielle’s favorite forms of expression because of its ability to covey emotion. From then on, she began writing her own poetry. Her poetry was so inspirational that she was asked to write a poem for her eighth grade graduation program. In 2004, the Gwendolyn Brooks Center for Black Literature and Creative Writing presented her with the Dudley Randall Poetry Award for her poem "Being Black". Today, she continues to write inspiring and engaging poetry on her blog.
