Invisible Prey

Hidden by so much noise

Her screams and cries go unheard.

Her pain was never visible, never seen.

Her spirit gone,

Her body

Lifeless and gone.

Here she lies

Destroyed by the slashes of her predator.

Holes burned into her flesh by her predator’s bullets.

Bruises stain her face from the repeat jabs of her predator.

Scars mark her neck from the rope her predator strung

To watch swing and struggle to breathe.

Left to die alone and invisible.

Her remains now a desolate corpse,

While her predator roams free.

Free to commit another injustice.

Free to find another prey,

Another Black woman to slay,

Free to stalk a prey so invisible to the world

Until she becomes the next hashtag.

Dedicated to Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland and so many Black women whose lives have been taken.
